Portulak – Purslane

Purslane is a healthy salad plant with thick, succulent and oval leaves grown in summer. It’s best eaten raw in salads and has gained more popularity in recent years. It has crisp, fleshy leaves and a refreshing mild and citrusy flavor. I love to grow this weird plant, not only for it’s taste. It sprouts in moist and dark conditions, so I cover the seeds with wet jute bags. After a few days the soil is covered with tiny, red sprouts. It’s looks so magical, I will add a picture next year. After just a few weeks it’s ready to harvest.

Storage
Keep in your plastic bag in the fridge for 5 days.
