Bondböna – Broad Beans

Big, fat, beautiful broad beans. A green burst to lighten up your plate. Broad beans are cultivated in very early spring. They don’t mind darkness at all and can even be planted in autumn to sprout in spring. These broad beans have been pre-seeded in a cold greenhouse at the end of February and planted out mid March.

Store:
Store in the pods in the fridge up to a week. If the pod gets a bit brown that’s no problem.

Recipes

To get to the beans, split open the pod with your nail, as you would to pod peas. The smallest, youngest beans need only the outer pod removing before cooking. You could ‘double-pod’ larger ones; after boiling, refresh in cold water, then pinch off the skins to reveal the bright green beans inside.
